Grant Funding

The UBSS is fortunate in having access to grant aid to assist its members. Two sources of cash which can be used to help us in going caving, researching caves, etc. are only available to us.

The Oliver Lloyd Memorial Fund

Oliver
The Oliver Lloyd Memorial Fund (OCLF) was set up by our then President Professor Bob Savage in memory of Oliver Lloyd the Society’s long-standing and remarkably eccentric Treasurer, who died in 1985. The fund is independent and is managed by Trustees, all of whom are members of the Society. The OCLF is able to fund all aspects of the Society’s activities and has now paid out many thousands of pounds in support of everything from scientific research in the Museum, to replacing caving kit, to supporting social events, to painting the Hut.

It can only do this thanks to the remarkable generosity shown by our alumni membership who continue to support it with regular pledges, one-off gifts and bequests. To all these wonderful people we are and will continue to be extremely grateful.

Anyone who is interesting in either supporting the OCLF or in applying for its support for a specific project should contact our vice-President (and OCLF Trustee) Linda Wilson.

The Tratman Fund

Trat
The Tratman Fund is a University of Bristol fund which was set up using money bequeathed by our long-standing President E.K. Tratman. Its purpose is to assist members, especially student members, with overseas travel. In life, Trat, as he was universally known, was remarkably generous in helping students, especially those participating in Irish expeditions, who would find their travel, accommodation and even their Guinness being paid for out of his pocket. Applications can be made for trips abroad which will result in an output which benefit both the applicant(s) and the Society’s aims. Enquires and applications should be made through Linda Wilson who will liaise with the University’s stakeholder.
