Research

The UBSS has never been just a caving club. Ever since its foundation, over a century ago, its goals have included “the study of caves and their contents.” This work still goes in, with members being involved in cave archaeology, palaeontology, geology, geomorphology, hydrology, survey and historical research. Much of this work is published in our own Proceedings .

• The Gazetteer of Caves, Fissures and Rock Shelters in Britain containing Human Remains, compiled by Andrew T. Chamberlain.

• A Gazetteer of Vertebrate Remains from Caves in the Yorkshire Dales referenced in Caving Club Journals and allied literature, compiled by Phillip J. Murphy.

• A website dedicated to Pen Park Hole, a remarkable and historic cave in north Bristol.
